The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) Terminal East Infill Project in Austin, Texas has been awarded by DBIA with the National Award of Merit in the Aviation category. The ABIA Terminal East Infill Project enhances the passenger experience by expanding passenger processing capabilities for ticketing, customs, baggage handling, and also adds a new passenger security screening checkpoint accommodating up to 10 new lanes. This project added 56,000 SF to the terminal, reshaping the entrance to the airport with a multi-story, windowed and colorful terminal adjacent to much of the pedestrian area of the airport. Inside, the project, which is targeting LEED Silver certification, adds a connection from the east ticket lobby to the concourse at gate five. The project also comprises approximately 31,000 SF of renovated space at each of the Concourse, Apron and Baggage Claim levels. The Concourse level expansion includes up to a 10-lane Security Screening Checkpoint (SSCP) within a high-volume, open, day-lit space, as well as 4,000 SF of new concessions services. At the Baggage Claim level, this project’s new customs screening facility increased international arrivals processing from 100 passengers/hour to 600 passengers/hour, and also provides expansion of the domestic baggage claim area with two new carousels.
