The University of California, Irvine – Mesa Court Student Housing Expansion project in Irvine, California was awarded Project of the Year by DBIA, as well as the National Award of Merit and National Award of Excellence in the Educational Facilities category. The $96 million, 250,000-SF University of California, Irvine (UCI) Mesa Court Student Housing Expansion project consisted of three new concrete structures, each standing six stories high, plus a podium. These new 834-bed residence halls include ancillary space such as study rooms, computer labs, a great room, a fitness center, a recreational room, student office space, kitchenettes, and laundry facilities. A cutting-edge dining facility has also been incorporated into the design, providing a fresh food concept with multiple food venues, food preparation classes, and a coffee house with extended hours of operations. The expansive dining area has the capacity to service all the students housed at Mesa Court. This new state-of-the-art facility services a total of 2,500 students and residents and is a campus landmark and hub for the UCI community.
